I frequently get asked “What can we do in Australia in a month (or whatever period)?” Given the vastness and diversity of Australia there are literally thousands of answers to this.
This got me to thinking and wondering if there was anything that bound this great country together. Is there any single factor that makes Australia the great place it is?
I have thought long and hard about it looking for some commonality between the states and territories. Finally I came up with the answer. There is one thing that is common between every state and territory and that is our forefathers’ ability to come up with what some might term crass and vulgar names for places right across this great land.
So, My dear Reader, for your next tour of Australia forget about the Opera House and the Barrier Reef. Forget about the Uluru and Kakadu. I recommend and commend the places on the list below, which I have thoughtfully organised on a state and territory basis for you. I’m sure the list is incomplete and could be added to. I have only included names that I have been able to verify actually exist though I have not been to them all!
For those who believe the Aussie song title “I’ve been everywhere, man…..” applies to them – how many on the list below can you tick off?
