Stepping ashore, from our cruise ship tender, onto the Ile des Pins everyone was given a lei – a woven flower headdress, in our case, not dissimilar to the green ones worn in some of the attached pictures though interwoven with flowers. The gifting of a lei is an island way of greeting guests – a sign of recognition and friendship.
Having received our leis we were entertained / welcomed by a colourful singing and dancing group.
A thoughtful gesture on the part of our hosts, if a bit touristy. Great if you have not seen it before.
This blog entry is one of a group (loop) of entries based on my trip to Ile des Pins, New Caledonia. I suggest you continue with my next entry – More Than Sand, Sun And Sea – or to start the loop at the beginning go to my introductory entry – No Hurries, No Worries.
