Between Kerang and Lake Boga (about 40 kilometres north of Kerang) lie over fifty lakes of varying size, some with water, some dry. Collectively the lakes are referred to as The Kerang Lakes and today we visited a small number of the more accessible and thus more popular of these lakes.

Today we moved on from Sea Lake to the larger rural town of Kerang (population just shy of 4,000) which we will use as a base to explore the Kerang Lakes, tomorrow. Today our primary focus was the mundane activity of shopping to stock up on provisions – there being a Woolworths supermarket in town. While in town we also had a quick look around and a stroll along the Loddon River.

Yesterday evening and this morning, we spent a bit of time just wandering around the rather picturesque and photogenic little town of Sea Lake before visiting the town’s silo artwork and Lake Tyrrell, a pink (salt) lake about a 10-minute drive out of town.

After two days enjoying the natural delights of the Pink Lakes area of the Murray – Sunset National Park it was time to move on. Today we travel to the small town of Sea Lake, via Patchewollock, and indulge in the delights of some human creations, mainly in the form of grain silo art and other artworks along the way.

The area known as Pink Lakes, within the 6,330 square kms Murray – Sunset National Park, consists of four lakes – Crosbie, Becking, Kenyon and Hardy. This morning we left South Australia and crossed the state border into Victoria. Rather than the colourful state borders signs I have encountered elsewhere in Australia, at this crossing the ‘welcome’ was a serious of signs warning us that speed cameras were in operation though-out Victoria. Well, I guess we can’t later say we were not forewarned should we transgress.

Having visited Wynarka and Karoonda we continued on to our overnighter at Pinnaroo. In caravanning a stop is typically referred to as an overnighter when you pull up late evening and set-up without detaching the van from the car, eat, sleep and do whatever else you might do of an evening and then leave first thing the following morning. Typically no sightseeing is scheduled in.

This is day ten of our trip from Adelaide to Canberra, and we have not even hit 100 kilometres from home, with another 1,100 kilometres to go if we took the shortest route, which of course we will not be taking. We have dilly-dallied around this part of the Murray River because there is lots to see and do. Indeed, we could stay longer, but we really need to get moving. We can, and will, come back here again as it’s so close to our new home in Adelaide. Today we will head pretty much due east to the small town of Pinnaroo and in so doing double our distance from Adelaide.

I visited the Pangarinda Botanic Garden, just outside the township of Wellington, South Australia, as part of a round trip drive between Tailem-Bend and Wellington. Rather than ‘hide’ the beauty of the garden in my general review on that drive (Day 305 (Pt.1)) I have decided to include what is essentially a pictorial summary of our winter visit to the garden here.

Today, we took a short drive down the western side of the Murray River from Tailem Bend to Wellington, via the small hamlet of Jervois, returning to Tailem Bend along the eastern side of the river.
