Bradleys Head to Chowder Bay Walk

94

I cannot imagine anyone coming to Sydney and not taking a walk along Circular Quay to see the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. Few would visit and not get out onto the harbour, either by way of a tour or on one of the regular ferries that scurry hither and thither. Something few people do is go for a walk at other points along the harbour and admire it, and the city, from different angles. This is a great shame – so make sure you do not miss out. There are many options available and this walk from Taronga Zoo around Bradleys Head to Chowder Bay (in Sydney Harbour National Park) is but one. Continue reading “Bradleys Head to Chowder Bay Walk”

Bric A Brac With Atmosphere

89

Set up in the grounds of Rozelle Public School, itself a nice sandstone building opened in 1877, Rozelle Markets is a community flea market offering a wide variety of bric-a-brac and small antiques. Additionally there is a small amount of new produce and, thankfully, a distinct absence of trashy cheap imports. All up there would be up to 100 stalls on a typical market day – a giant garage sale, if you will. Continue reading “Bric A Brac With Atmosphere”

Egg of the Universe: A Good Healthy Option

84

Egg of the Universe bills itself as ‘Sydney’s only integrated Yoga Studio and Wholefoods café’ and its website focuses on the yoga aspect of the business.

As I didn’t come here to exercise a muscle, other than those in my mouth, I won’t comment on the yoga aspect of the business, except to say I did see various people entering and leaving with mats, presumably to part-take of, or having part-taken of, the yoga. Darling Street Apartments: Quiet and Secluded

79

Often when we travel within Australia we take our small dog with us. This necessitates advance planning in terms of accommodation and severely restricts where we can stay.

The upside, when it comes to Sydney, is that rather than staying in small hotel rooms in the inner city we generally end up in much more spacious apartment style digs, invariably self catering and with a small courtyard. This comes at around the same price as, or less than, a basic viewless inner city hotel room, especially when you add the outrageous cost city centre hotels charge for car parking. Black Mountain Summit Walk

103

The first thing most visitors to Canberra notice is Telstra Tower on Black Mountain. The Tower is one of Canberra’s most visited sites and you can get to it by car or bicycle (if you are very fit) or you can walk. Most people, thankfully for those who chose to walk, get there by car. This review is on the Summit Walk, which is, in my view, without doubt the best way to get to the summit. Ensure that you take some water with you. Continue reading “Black Mountain Summit Walk”

Australian National Botanic Gardens

93

Allow yourself about two hours (more if you want to sample the café in the gardens which I thoroughly recommend you do) to see these delightful and varied gardens. The National Botanic Gardens, run by the Government, specialises in Australian native plants and contains nearly 7,000 of some 18,000 identified species found in Australia, all set in Canberra’s bushland environment.
