Leaving aside a stroll around Lake Burley Griffin, the Mt Ainslie Summit walk (sometimes referred to as the Kokoda Track after the famous WWII Kokoda Trail in neighbouring Papua New Guinea) is the most popular short walk in Canberra. This lookout on the top (approximately 840m above sea level) of Mount Ainslie is the best place for a stunning view of Canberra. Great at dawn or dusk but good any time of the day. It affords an excellent view from the Australian War Memorial, across Lake Burley Griffin and on to the Brindabella mountain ranges in the background. While visiting Changi Chapel – Prisoner of War National Memorial, within the Royal Military College at Duntroon, I decided to wander into the adjacent ANZAC Memorial Chapel of St Paul. I am glad I did.

Changi Chapel, one of thirteen built by Prisoners of War (POWs) in the Changi Prison Camp, Singapore, was built, with the permission of Japanese officers, as ‘Our Lady of Christians Roman Catholic Chapel’ . Mt Pleasant is one of four lookouts over Canberra city and the surrounding area.
It is probably the least visited of the four. Perhaps people are nervous and put off coming here as you have to drive through the grounds of the Duntroon Royal Military College. As indicated in my main review on Rookwood Necropolis, it is the largest cemetery in the Southern Hemisphere. It is sometimes cited as having its own post-code. Accommodation in the centre of Sydney is often in short supply and has become very expensive.
Recently I have started cycling again (to and from work and the odd fun ride) and wanted to do a couple of rides in Sydney. I hasten to add that Sydney is not a good place for fun cycling given its dearth of cycle paths and its rather hilly terrain. Indeed I would sadly, in the main, recommend against cycling as a mode of transport or a way of sightseeing for the visitor to Sydney.
