
This is not intended as a warning against visiting Garden Island (or that part of it you are permitted to visit) but rather advise on how to get there lest you waste time trying to access it via any way other than the ferry wharf on the northern tip of the island (which is no longer an island). The first thing I must say about this small but wonderful natural history museum is that it on the top floor of the Macleay Building on Science Road and you must enter the building at the end furthest away from the University of Sydney’s Great Hall (where you will see a sign for the museum) and not the other end as I did, only to have to clamber back down three flights of stairs and up them again at the correct end of the building.
