There are two options in terms of climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge – either a climb up the south-east Pylon, the one closest to Circular Quay, or the main bridge climb by which you can get to the top of the arch. Looking at The Star’s website you would be forgiven for missing the fact that the raison d’être for this whole complex is that it hosts Sydney’s only casino. The focus of the website is on the complex as an entertainment hub with its theatre (Lyric), Events Centre, hotels (Darling and Astral), bars and nightclubs, day spas, shops and wide range of restaurants, from higher end food court style to some of the City’s most expensive. This ornate four sided trachyte stone World War One memorial commemorates the 750 men from the Pyrmont – Ultimo district who enlisted in the Australian Expeditionary Forces during the Great War. In recent years there have been ongoing calls in Australia for state provided or heavily subsidised kindergarten and outside school hours childcare – a very literal example of the nanny state that Australia is fast becoming.

The Rambling Wombat
