The Cotter Catchment Lookout Track

192

Having visited the base of Cotter Dam I developed the urge to get up on top and see the catchment area and reservoir. Should you, Dear Reader, get a similar urge I recommend this short (2.8km return), and relatively easy walk, which starts just off the Brindabella Rd, about 2.5 kms from the Cotter Reserve. Cotter Dam Discovery Trail And Dam

184

This short 1 kilometre return walk, which is wheelchair friendly, starts at the Cotter Bend car park (a short trek from the camping ground– see my Cotter Reserve review) and meanders along the bubbling river, shaded by native and exotic trees to the base of the Cotter Dam. Mt Stromlo Observatory

175

This you may feel to be peculiar review if you are expecting me to tell you about telescopes and all things astronomical. Indeed, if I had written this tip pre-18 January 2003 that is precisely what I would have been writing about. Continue reading “Mt Stromlo Observatory” →

Can Tho: “Best Vietnamese In Canberra”

167Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant in Belconnen

I have been a diner at this restaurant since in opened back in the early 2000s. It is still run by the same Vietnamese family. The restaurant is a bit out of the way and in the early days 1 or 2 tables was the norm. Nowadays it is regularly packed and for good reason. Umbagong District Park

157

In all honestly, I had never heard of Umbagong District Park and consequentially had no desire whatsoever to visit it – just like you, I suspect! I only became aware of the park’s existence when I was trying to identify the whereabouts of some Aboriginal axe grinding grooves. Continue reading “Umbagong District Park” →

Weetangera Cemetery

151

Those who have read more than a handful of my reviews will be aware of my predilection for visiting old cemeteries. This is not out of any sense of morbid curiosity but rather because of their value in getting to know a local area and its social history, in particular. Continue reading “Weetangera Cemetery” →

The Pinnacle Nature Trail

146

A few weeks earlier I visited The Pinnacle Nature Reserve and while it started out rather disappointing I recorded in my review of that walk how the disappointment turned to pleasure when I went for a wander in the south-eastern part of the reserve, having visited the, oddly named, Pinnacle itself.
