Ascension Island – A Dot In The Atlantic

Ascension Island is a tiny dot (88 square kilometres) in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, some seven degrees south of the equator. It is one of the most remote inhabited places on the planet. Do visit it – you won’t regret it.

(Oct 17 update – sadly the termination of flights to/from the UK and the closure of the Island’s only hotel have made a private visit to the island pretty difficult to arrange  – hopefully a solution to transport problems will eventuate in the neat future). Ibis Budget Enfield -Great Budget Option for Us

Accommodation in the centre of Sydney is often in short supply and has become very expensive.

Recently I have started cycling again (to and from work and the odd fun ride) and wanted to do a couple of rides in Sydney. I hasten to add that Sydney is not a good place for fun cycling given its dearth of cycle paths and its rather hilly terrain. Indeed I would sadly, in the main, recommend against cycling as a mode of transport or a way of sightseeing for the visitor to Sydney.
