Today, we took a short drive down the western side of the Murray River from Tailem Bend to Wellington, via the small hamlet of Jervois, returning to Tailem Bend along the eastern side of the river.

On completion of our short visit to Murray Bridge and having enjoyed walking along the river it was time to move on to Swan Reach hoping that we would snag a prime camping site right by the river.

Given a fairly tight schedule in Wonsan we only had time for a brief stop in the city’s central square, surprisingly not to formally visit and pay our respects at the statues of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il but rather to see a ferry which, apart from a few ‘special runs’, has lain unused here, by the dock, since 2006.

Getting from Stockholm to to Riga by Ferry

Instead of flying from Stockholm to Riga we decided to take Tallink’s ferry, the M/S Isabelle. Take the Ferry to White Island

Unsurprisingly the White Island ferry exists to ferry people back and forth from White Island, the location of a series of beautiful early Christian stone carvings dating from pre-Norman times and the ruins of a 12th century church on which I have written a separate entry – White Island Carvings and Church.
The ferry departs from Castle Archdale Country Park Marina. Continue reading “Take the Ferry to White Island”
Getting to the Ile des Pins and Getting Around

For me, the Ile des Pins was a stop on a short South Pacific cruise. A number of operators offer cruises from Australia which stop at the Ile des Pins and this is the way the majority of international visitors get to and from the island. That said, the island is also a popular weekend retreat for Noumeans, Noumea, the capital of New Caledonia, being a short flight or boat ride from the Ile des Pins. Maré – Getting There And Getting Around

For me, Maré was a stop on a short South Pacific cruise. A number of operators, including Carnival (the one which I travelled on) and P&O, offer cruises stopping at Maré and this is the way the vast majority of visitors get to and from the island.
