Art Barton Park is small ribbon like park, a couple of metres of densish growth, on either side of the walking path along the east side of the beautiful Lavender Bay on the North Shore, across the Harbour Bridge and a stones throw to the west of Luna Park. Sydney Harbour is studded with little bays and coves. One of the most beautiful of these and the most accessible (not that it’s hard to get to any of them) from the City is Lavender Bay, on the North Shore, just across the Harbour Bridge and to its west. Today Taylors Bay, located between Bradleys Head and Chowder Head, in Sydney Harbour is a very peaceful spot with a beautiful little secluded beach and anchored boats bobbing on the water. The European history of New South Wales, and indeed Australia, will always be traced back to the site of the first British settlement at Sydney Cove (now Circular Quay). That said, it wasn’t long until the industrial and maritime hub of the Colony, and the new city of Sydney, moved around the corner, as it were, to the adjacent Darling Harbour, or Long Cove/Cockle Bay as it was called until 1826 when the not so modest State Governor, Darling, renamed it after himself.
