Macquarie Place – An Oasis in the City

118

Set back a couple of hundred metres from Circular Quay, Macquarie Place is a delightful little oasis right in the centre of Sydney’s central business district and is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Circular Quay and the Harbour, especially on a hot summer day. A Tribute to Robert Burns

16

The famous Scottish bard, Robert (Rabbie) Burns, never set foot in Australia and never once mentioned Australia in any of his work. Continue reading “A Tribute to Robert Burns” →

Big Christopher

115

The story goes (though details vary) that in the third century there lived, on the right bank of the Daugarva River, a gentle giant called Offero. The Lady of the Lake

167

Legend has it that a mysterious and graceful lady clad in glowing garments once regularly glided across Lough Erne passing by Inishmacsaint, Inisgarve, Inisdoney, Inisclare and Inisglorraigh, carrying in her hand a bunch of beautiful wild flowers.

To the people of old this was The Lady of the Lake and her appearance was a sign of good times ahead. Continue reading “The Lady of the Lake” →

Christianity Combines With Tribal Traditions

185
Statue to St Maurice

Visiting this statue (with its amazing palisade of carved totem poles) was, without doubt, the highlight of my short cruise to New Caledonia. Set against turquoise waters in the bay and a gorgeous sky it is one of the most beautiful sights I have seen anywhere in the world. Continue reading “Christianity Combines With Tribal Traditions” →

More Than Sand, Sun And Sea

180
Kuto Bay

The Ile des Pins, Nourea, is rightly famous for its spectacular bays, reefs and beaches and to access two of the best of these, Kuto Beach and Kanumera Bay, the visitor arriving by ferry from Noumea or on a cruise ship, as I did, need do no more than walk a few hundred metres either side of where you come ashore. Grand People’s Study House (Part 1)

In the first part of this two part review I will comment on the building itself and the first floor (or more precisely the floor that we entered on as it may or may not be deemed the first floor of this ten story building). In part two of the review I will guide the reader through the resources available within the Study House. Continue reading “Grand People’s Study House (Part 1)” →
